Abate's Fundraiser
To those who marked their calendars for Wednesday, I'm very sorry, the fundraiser for Democratic hopeful Camille Abate was actually last night. I goofed. Abate's campaign wrote about it on her blog, complete with pictures.
Anybody running in the 5th with a web site that preaches "Our goal in 2008 must be a veto proof United States Congress." isn't going to win over many moderates in the 5th..or many independents for that matter. Neither is a picture of you with Jon Corzine and a Bob Menendez pin going to help much..
Then again do you really think it's legitimately possible a Democrat can win against Garrett with the district layout the way it is?
I think that a Democrat -- or anyone -- who makes as clear as Matt did earlier that Garrett's ideologically-based votes in Washington DIRECTLY AFFECT THEIR PROPERTY TAXES -- could win this district.
There are many voters in NJ-5 who are so out of touch they think Marge Roukema is their representative, or else they don't know and don't care.
I don't think a Democrat can do much with Sussex, but I think Bergen and Warren are available to the right Democrat. Garrett is ideologically out-of-step with Bergen voters, but they don't know it. He's been a stealth wingnut, and it's time for him to be exposed.
Frankly, I wish Matt were running again. He's the only one who seems to have the details about the issues and the only one who keeps track of Garrett's votes and how they affect the district.
When we put aside partisanship, embrace the best ideas regardless of where they come from and work for principled compromise, we can move America not left or right, but forward. - Bill Clinton

I appreciate the comments. I haven't ruled anything out, and promise to decide shortly after the New Year.
